Richard Dunne founded The Harmony Project after developing the Harmony approach to learning in his previous role as Headteacher of an Ofsted-graded Outstanding school.
This approach brings together subject-specific skills and knowledge around projects or enquiries of learning that take learning beyond the classroom and apply it to the real world. Each enquiry references a principle of Harmony in Nature – Interdependence, Cycles, Diversity, Adaptation, Health and Oneness. When learners understand these principles of Harmony, they learn what they need to do to live sustainably, too. It is our lack of understanding of these principles that has led us to a place where the future well-being of our planet and its people is now at stake.
Richard now shares this approach across the education sector nationally and globally through presentations, workshops and school support programmes. He has written a teachers’ guide to enable teachers and educators to implement Harmony principles and practices in their education settings. The guide is being promoted as a blueprint for Education for Sustainability with the Department of Education. It has now been translated into nine languages.

I qualified as an engineer in 1989 and worked in the Engineering field for seven years in Bombay. There, through my various forest experiences gained from forest walks and through interactions with members of the Bombay Natural History Society, i realized that nature conservation was my true calling. I then switched to teaching Environment Education and worked as a teacher in the Krishnamurti Foundation School, Chennai for 12 years from 1997 to 2009. That was a true turning point in my life, as i began to live life fully on my own terms and gained much of the world view that i hold now.
I have been with the Students’ Sea Turtle Conservation Network (SSTCN) from 1997 and have been coordinator of the group since 2002. Besides conserving and protecting the eggs of Olive ridley turtles nesting on our beach and safely releasing new born hatchlings, i have been working at creating awareness about environmental issues through discussions with groups of people on turtle walks every weekend during turtle nesting season. I also hold talks in schools and colleges for students and teachers. Akila Balu joined the SSTCN in 2006 and has been actively involved since then as a fellow trustee.
I moved to Thiruvannamalai in 2009 with my wife Poornima and 2 children. Our son Madhavan is 22 years old now and Madhumitha is 14 years old now. Poornima is a post graduate and has been a teacher for 26 years. Through our project called The Forest Way, I am currently involved in afforestation of the Arunachala Hill and run the environmental education activities of the project.
Akila Balu, Suprabha Seshan ( of Gurukula botanical sanctuary), Harish and i are the trustees.
My work partner and founders of this work are Govinda Bowley, who is of British origin and his wife Leela Arnon of Israeli origin.

I am a nature educator and creative freelancer in Bangalore. As a child, I was fortunate to have mentors who encouraged me to establish a curiosity with the outdoors and a hunger to engage with local backyard wildlife. Today, I seek to pass on the same enthusiasm and sense of wonder that was given to me in the hope that children who develop a personal relationship to their environment will eventually grow into adults with an active stake in the outdoors. At Centre for Learning where I work with children across different age groups, this is done using a constellation of activities ranging from land care, nature observation-based projects and regular walks in the outdoors to witness and document different aspects of the natural world in ways that make sense for a child. I hold a bachelor’s degree in Zoology and a master’s in Wildlife Biology and Conservation. As a freelancer, I write and illustrate (preferably for people working on environmental issues) and work as a cinematographer for corporate clients.
Reva’s focus in the last couple of decades has been to decode natural and sociocultural systems towards making sense of the living-learning-livelihood system. She has been studying how living, learning and livelihood have gotten siloed over time, while they are one elegant nested system with interrelated synergies between them. Livelihood is about securing life-essentials, living is how we organize our lives around the life-essentials, and learning is a consequence of living. Progressive societies enable people to find congruence between the three.
Reva has worked in the field of education and learning, involved in re-envisioning learning spaces as well as work culture. She explored natural learning as a pursuit towards looking at learning beyond educational institutions and curriculums. She believes that it is natural if learning is a consequence of living rather than an enforced intervention.
Reva is the cofounder of Primalise. An organisation that helps business and social organisations reconnect with their core-essentials and negotiate step-changes.
